I was told - " Turn right and take the Blue plane".
Took Airasia from JB's Senai Airport to Tawau Sabah - 2 hr 40 min flight. Stayed 1 night at Tawau having sumptuous seafood dinner at MaLing before catching up with others at Sempurna via speedboat. Stayed two nights at huts. We picked the last hut not knowing a new one is being built next to us with all the sawing noises and banging sound. The hut is roomy with two fans above the beds. Electricity is only on after 7pm till 7am? Water tanks on each unit provide the gravity feed bucket and pail shower. The unit sometimes swayed with the tide as if a low-level earthquake is in progress.
Milkyway on the 2nd night is better and learnt where to switch off the lighting there.
The highlight of the trip: a) Visited the Tawau fruit market not far from where we stayed. Trying out Terap for those who had never tasted before. b) Shooting for Milkyway and Gorgeous Sunrise / Sunset. Islands hopping and snorkelling. c) A hike up Buahey Island to see the coral reef ringed sea - remains of an ancient volcano. On the mainland, on the day we fly home five of us d) visited the Tawau Hill Park to see the tallest tropical tree - Shorea sps. and a longer hike to see the sulphur hot spring. All were treated to leeches sticking to foot limbs and I discovered one still attaching to my rear during the shower.
The almighty Gurung Kinabalu 13K height stick out from the clouds as the plane bank right towards Tawau on the eastern end of the Borneo Dog mouth |
When our plane parked a flaming sunset is in progress. |
The head of Borneo |
The speed boat seems to aim for the trio peak in the distance... It was not |
