Lombok Rinjani - Sep 2015

 


Lombok Photographic Trip to 

a) Scale Gunung Rinjani  3726 m and 
b) Cycling on party island  Gili Trawangan Island 
c) Shoot Milkyway. 

   
Using Note4, Canon SX50HS, Canon G7x (minimal), Nikon P900, EOS60D with fisheye 15mm

The Result :

It was around 9 pm most already slept in the surrounding tents. It was cold quiet and pitch dark outside. Using my head lamp i set up the tripod and remote cable on the EOS60D. The sequence was tested in the tent before we shifted it out. Sigma 15mm f2.8 ISO 3200, 20S bulb mode, lens set to manual and infinity at the mark i already knew and tested in singapore.

   Sept 21 '15 update - This is from the Note4 Camera -  shots trailing from the airport arrival to .... flying off and the three Gili islands from air.

Arrival by Silk Air from Singapore 2hr 30 min flight time

Day one we stay here - 1 hrs drive from the Rinjani Visitor Centre.

Our alarm system  - two kept roasters in enclosure keep us aware earlier than usual

The summit is visible from where we stay.

The Forestry Department  @ Sembalun Lawang side where we registered our names etc before the climb.  
 A glance down the registered page indicated most climbers are in their mid 20s. I am among the very few high age group.  

Our porters doing their cooking during 'pit' stop. Gas canister and simple stove fitted in a compact pelican case.  Pineapple ( nanas)  is the common fruits served being easy to be tied up and you dont need water to wash once de-skinned.

Meal of instant noodle and eggs and fruits - a big too salty . A big plate of white rice was offered but we did not consume as we are too 'kenyang' or full liao

Tents line. We were just above the cloud line.  Great for star / milky way watching at night but v cold

Gili T - Another look of the Green Cafe net to Le Petit Ciu in front is night market with plenty of food to savour.

Gili Trawangan - Almost all eateries had Wifi. Just ask for the password.  We ate our lunch twice at this Greencafe. CHeap and good. 25 - 30,000 Rupiah. or $2.5 - $3 Singapore dollars. At night the empty field in front was swamped with sea food etc etc. 

$13000 rupiah you get this fresh fish bakar for you served with white rice.

You could literally sat at the sasak pondok and watch the sun goes down or read a book and sip Bintang Beer

The Green Cafe lady ( actually both of them) recommended Adem  Sari  'cooling drink' for cracked lips heatiness.

Portable rides for kids. THe whole contraption can be pulled bu a motor bike and set up even at road side.

This is the beach in Sheraton.  We took a cap from Jayakarta and find places for dinner. 10 minutes ride US$2

The three Gili from the air .  THe leftmost is Gili Trawangan where we stayed  over 1 night.   IT took only 15 minutes speedboat ride from the main island of Lombok.

   The followings are from  the Sigma fisheye 15mm f2.8 on 60D body.  Milky way single shot were with ISO3200, f2.8, 20S on tripod and intervelometer.  

When the low clouds moves in condensates some times formed rain drop.

In the distance is the peak top right centre.

Keep walking - sandy  dusty and slippery loose tracks

1st camping site on the back of a 2600 + mountain. Why yellow ? was told the same company is renting the tent out to all others.

My watch ( uncalibrated for height) was tellimg me 3,502 metre actual is 3,726m

At the lake level - in the distance mid frame is anak baru - literally means the new kid - the active volcano while Rinjani is not.

15mm also can be used for relatively close up view - here grass with furry tails

From air to Lombok we found mountains protruding from clouds

Garlic rooted and sun drying 

Unknown flower attracted my attention

Pits stop along the way in the beginning part of the trekking

I noticed swallows flying around this little valley .. insects must be nearby but why

There is a fig tree here attracting the insects and so is the swallow

Like skiing these lines are people climbing up the loose stony slopes kicking up dusks and that lead to the summit.
