Sun bird and epiphytic
Sun-bird trying the nectar from epiphytic Dendrophthoe pentandra plant on the host tree of purplish Queen`s Flower (`Lagerstromia Speciosa). Cropped imaged I was still fiddling with the tripod when it appeared not at the end of the zoom lens.
Noticed the bird when walking past the tree on my way to work last week. Making use of the long weekends I returned to the same spot. Yesterday's trial run surfaced the absolute need of a tripod. Trying to focus using the EOS live view at x10 is impossible with the heavy and lens.

Yishun Park - a fruit on hand beats 10 up in the tree
The search is finally over!!!! Terap / tarrap IS found in Singapore also right at my new neighorhood. If you come across else where other than Yishun Park please let me know. The other species with curly hairy one is high up in the hesitage tree in Fort Canning park.
I return with my P7000. I found bristle littering under the trees. The rough bristle is the same i felt in Borneo tarap. Then i found a fallen fruit. It was still very hard. |
Terap / tarrap in hand. |
The fruit is covered with bristle like outer skin. |
Brought it home for the family member to touch and sectioned it to peep inside. |
Little seeds attaching to the central core. A far cry from those edible ones found in Sarawak / Sabah. |

Marang or Tarrap?
Bread fruit had different more forky leaves but this one reminded me of the tarap tree in Borneo. Fort canning had a big tree with sterile mawang while in SBG the tarap never forms fleshy seed.
